Weekly Update: 21 Miles.

Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve had a great week!

I had a rest day on Monday after a weekend of drinking (wooops).

On Tuesday I went to my regular Aerial class, and for the first time in forever I really didn’t enjoy it. I hate to say it but it was awful! If you remember my last post I did a few classes on my day off, because I haven’t done Hoop or Trapeze for a long time, or much at flying fantastic I had to do the beginners class (even though I felt I could have done the more advance side). Back to Tuesday’s class it was packed because of their august offer, which is unlimited Aerial for august for £150 (which I didn’t purchase because I can’t commit to many classes due to work and life). Our advanced side of the slings class was packed, so I didn’t get much sling time or much help or feedback, so doesn’t help me improve really. At the end of the lesson we play a game called “add on” we each get up and do a move one by one adding on to those before us. There were 8 of us in total. At this point it was clearly recognised that people who were on the advance side had no clue how to actually get on the slings! It was rather frustrating for me because I would technically be paying more than they would have for this class and getting way less for my money! It angered me. To top it off, putting my shoes on in the lobby on the way out someone elbowed me in the head. I had truly had enough! I ran home directly, a short quick run because I was frustrated and hungry!

Mum ordered a Hello Fresh box this week and we tried one of the recipes!

It was super yummy. I love halloumi cheese!

I got up early Wednesday and did my four miles before work! It was a decent pace and a comfortable run.

Thursday morning, I got up and went to a core class at Ministry for Fitness. I’ve only ever tried cardio before so it was nice to try another class.

I had another rest day on Friday, and met the birthday girl Leanne after work for a Steak dinner.

On Saturday I did 3 miles as per the training plan, practising for the back to back race days in Disney.

I cooked another HelloFresh meal, Aubergine Tagelitelle!

I had a nice chill out evening and rested a lot after my many early mornings this week!

On Sunday I ran a couple of miles and met Emma at Vauxhall. We then ran 9 Miles together.

Overall we slow in comparison to the rest of the week but still a good run, we walked and chatted a lot and was great practise for Disneyland Paris!

Emma is a great runner and a great friend – she’s kept me laughing all week, and been a great support this week!

21 running miles under my belt this week and lots more walking too and from work.

I’ve been feeling generally really good this week! I’m getting more comfortable with my make up free face and have received lots of comments of encouragement for embracing the more natural look!

I dyed my hair this afternoon and I’m getting it cut this week and hoping the refresh will keep me feeling confident in my own skin.

I’m looking forward to my weekend at the Peak District next weekend, where I’ll be aiming to be social media free. I doubt I will post a weekly Update and will save for the following week!

Weekly Update: Defying Gravity

Happy Sunday.

This week has been fantastic, but it’s been a slow one!

I started my week by going to Ministry does fitness! I much preferred doing the morning class and enjoyed it much more than my previous two sessions.

I love their “Bitch don’t kale my vibe” smoothy/shake. I should started making smoothies again because I love them!

On Tuesday and Wednesday I had days off. On Tuesday I did Aerial Hoop and Wednesday I did Aerial Trapeze both at Flying Fantastic. Because I’ve done a lot of both but its been some time since I’ve done either regularly! Due to not doing many lessons of them at flying fantastic I had to do the beginners class.

It was good to go back to basics. I realised I have improved so much with my technique, strength and confidence.

On Wednesday evening, I met up with Leah & Emma and we ran Chase the sun at Crystal Palace. It was Emma’s first race in a while and she just getting back into running. It was a pleasure to run with bob girl and we had fun chatting as we made our way round the course!

By Thursday I was suffering, I’d had so many early mornings since the previous week. I had planned for a 10k in the evening, however I forgot my sports bra and headphones and was incredibly tired so I gave it a miss. I woke up early again on Friday and managed just over 5k. I was disappointed I wasn’t up to doing more but it was better than nothing.

Saturday was the big day I’d been waiting for! Me and Krissi tried Gorilla circus. It’s a flying trapeze school located in Regents Park. Krissi’s boyfriend Matt came along and took photos and videos for us which was very kind of him!

We warmed up and got to practise tucking through on a trapeze on the ground. Then we got to try flying. In total they give you four try’s, they were very nice and flexible and let me and Krissi have second go at our final tricks.

I found the most nerve wrecking part climbing up the ladder and standing on the edge preparing. I don’t really have a fear of heights and as I’ve never experienced anything like this before there was some fear but after the first go it quickly went away!

FIRST ATTEMPT. . . . My first attempt at flying trapeze was SO MUCH FUN. Ok get ready for some aerial spam!

I actually really loved everything about it. I found it relatively easy and fun, I don’t think doing aerial or dance helped apart from maybe making it look a little neater because I pointed my toes and the fact the I’m good with instruction and timing. Listening to their instructions and doing it when they tell you is super vital to a) doing it correctly and b) making it look good. You have to put a lot of trust in the instructor especially when they have to catch you in the middle of the air!

My finale attempt! Doing it with a Catcher! 🎉🐵. . . Thanks to Matt for his awesome GoPro videography!!

So it’s been a fun jam-packed week, I had every intention of doing 4 miles today but sadly I am hungover and my body aches.

Next week will probably be back to usual and not so many things happening.

Not long to go till this big ones…

Weekly Update: Slow Progress

Hey All!

This will be a quick update of my week because I am exhausted and too lazy to type!

Tuesday – I went to Aerial. It was a good lesson. I was slightly late as I had some drama at work that royally pissed me off and made me late so I sprinted the 1ish mile to Aerial from work. Being pissed off made me work harder and I noticed small progress in some moves I’d tried before and not quite managed.

I ran home from Aerial, it was a very short slow run. PMS began to hit me hard this week so I my energy and mood took a massive dip this week.

On Thursday I really would have liked to do more than 3.25 miles but my body was basically giving up on me, my mental and physical willpower had disappeared. I stuck to an easy small run so I didn’t make myself feel worse.

On Saturday I officially started my challenge training – meaning I ran on the Saturday and Sunday in preparation for the back to back race days at Disney! It was only two miles but I got up early to do them so I had the rest of the day. In the afternoon I took a nap and woke up with the worse headache, I’d been drinking fluids all day, so didn’t think I was dehydrated or anything. I went to make some food and I vomited a couple of times, I tried eating and vomited once more. I took tablets laid in the dark, drank plenty and cried lots! I managed to eat some toast right before I went to sleep for the night but I felt so awful I just didn’t know what to do.

Sunday – I woke up and felt better, my headache was still there so I took tablets again. I set off at quarter past 7 for a run, I stopped a few times because I was still feeling a bit iffy. I ran from home to Lambeth bridge, round to Vauxhall, nine elms, battersea, Wandsworth, and then finished near Wimbledon Village. 10 miles in total! I got a little lost but was good to take it slow and steady and work out where I was. I ran/walked and still kept to good time.

I met Leah for a coffee and we cheered on Emma and other runners at the Runthrough Wimbledon Common Half Marathon. I’ve really enjoyed cheering people on lately. We joined Lizzie and her husband and we went for food! We had such a good afternoon and I’m so glad I got out.

I do feel super tired now but it was well worth it. I’ve ran more than 50 miles this month and this is he second time since I’ve started running I’ve done this so I am very happy with that! Considering I’ve not run a big race this month and I’ve had time off for my birthday this is quite an achievement! This week was overall quite slow for me BUT that’s acceptable as the miles get longer. As long as I’m progressing I’m happy with that!

Next week isn’t a big one for miles but I have a lot of fun stuff going on!

Hope everyone has had a great week!

Weekly Update: Celebrating and Prepping

Hi All,

Apologies, I missed a week because I was very busy.

So what have I been up to the past two weeks?

Last Tuesday – I went to my regular sling class,  it was again fun and challenging. At one point I epicly failed and and dropped, which I caught on video for everyone’s amusement. I wasn’t hurt and all was good. I finally managed to do one of my favourite drops as a double and that made me very happy.

I went for a short run after Aerial, it was chucking it down and I got soaked but it was worth getting out there. I’m still running at varied paces, and this was a comfortable 10.27mm, but my times overall are creeping closer to a 9mm, which is the goal pace in the long run.

On Thursday knowing I would away for the weekend, I did my long run. The plan called for 7 miles, but I ended up doing 8 miles. I was really happy with this run, and loving the comfort of running in new trainers. My fastest mile was 9.20 and slowest was 10.11 which is fantastic for me. The long runs have crept up on me and I’m almost about to embark on 4 x run weeks.

On Friday – Disaster Struck. I sat in the nail salon getting a Mani-Pedi, and when I stood up my left foot was aching. I really struggled to walk flat footed but weirdly in heels it was OK.

I spent the weekend in Manchester with Rosie celebrating my Birthday, she made me the most awesome birthday cake.

We had such a good weekend, we ate good food, we laughed loads, we shopped, we partied. I had yet another amazing birthday and I feel very blessed to have such good friends and family.

I returned to work on Monday and my ankle was still hurting. I rested as much as I could, meaning I cancelled a class at Ministry Does Fitness on Tuesday, however I was determined to race on Wednesday at Runthrough’s Chase the Sun at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. On Tuesday morning, I took myself to the Doctor who said it wasn’t anything serious, possibly soft tissue damage. He just advised resting and icing. So that was what I did. I smothered my ankle in deep freeze, kept it elevated and put an ice pack on when I could. By Wednesday it had significantly improved, it was so much less painful so I decided to run. I met up with a group of people I’ve met through instgram. We all ran together and it was BRILLIANT, I wasn’t worried about time or distance, I didn’t have to push myself or my ankle too hard and I had so much FUN.

It was good to get running again after a long weekend off. I had an easy week on the training plan so I didn’t do much for the rest of the week until Sunday. I went for a 4 mile run, I felt like I was going terribly slow but it was actually a decent pace.

My training plan is starting to get serious, I need to start doing my runs two days in a row in preparation for both Disney weekends, and when I can squeeze in a 3 in a row if I can.

Next week I’m pushing for maximum effort, I’m back to aerial and hopefully I can book a class seems as I missed mine this week.

Weekly Update: The one where I made all the friends!

Hello all,

It’s been a busy week. I’ve squeezed so much in.

On Tuesday I went to my usual Aerial class, the week before when I was the only person in the class, this week everyone was back we each had a sling to ourselves and all worked really hard. I did my favourite drop so many times.

My favourite Drop 💪🏻❤️👇🏻

On Tuesday I went to Run Through’s Chase the Sun in Clapham Common. My friend Emma was running and a couple of other runners I’d followed on instagram for a while. I went and I was so anxious about meeting new people and people I’ve spoke to loads on instagram but never in person. I always think people must think I’m really weird, loud and annoying so I get really conscious of that at first.

I did the 5k in the heat, and finished just under 30 mins. This is actually my first timed 5k so was nice to have a record to now aim to beat. As usual the race was well organised fun and enjoyable. I really enjoy Run Through races so will be signing up to many more!

After the run a few of us went for Pizza and Drinks, I was sitting with a group of people I’d never met before that evening and genuinely had the best evening. I absolutely loved it. I got out of my comfort zone today and was happy with that but still felt a bit anxious later in the evening. Thanks to all the lovely runners who made me feel so welcome!

On Thursday I ran home, again it was a hot evening. I did a 5k and then rested as the week was starting to catch up with me.

On Friday I had a lovely rest day, and met up with my Friend Leah who is also running Disney to eat good food, watch the little mermaid and holiday plan.

On Saturday  I got up early and made my way to oxford street. My aim for this shopping trip was to get new trainers. I started at Asics, I was quickly disappointed when their service was AWFUL, no one wanted to serve me or make much effort. I carried on down oxford street where I went to Nike. I’ve always worn Nike trainers, I know they are comfortable and I like the style of them. The lady kindly helped me and I had a quick analysis in them. I purchased the Air Zoom structure 20, I made sure to get them a little bigger this time so that my toenails don’t fall off again (grim). They kindly gave me £20 off for spending over £100 so as instructed by my mother, who was kindly purchasing these for my birthday, I made my way back to asics for another pair.

I went on my way back from the pride parade covered in glitter and stickers and was so happy to see different staff in there. I was helped my a lovely girl who did the in depth shoe analysis, we tested three shoes and then when testing a fourth the machines didn’t work and she made me run on the treadmill like 5 times trying to make it work. It was a bit of a faff. In the end I settled on the GT 2000 trainers. I had to go up a whole size in these. I don’t really do coloured trainers but unfortunately they didn’t have many colours to offer it was blue or bright pink. I settled on the blue as they were a bit more subtle. Because of the bad service, the annoying machines and the lack of colour in my size, the lady kindly gave me a goodie bag which had a hat, headphone, bag, and bottle inside.

Between shopping I watched the Pride Parade it was fantastic, some colleagues found me in the crowd and it was fun to spend time with them! I waited till almost the end so I could see the Disney Parade. One of the lovely runners (and actual my neighbour) Michelle, who I met on Wednesday , was part of the parade. It was lovely to watch and see everyone having fun!

Saturday wiped me out and by the time I got home I couldn’t possibly move anymore.

On Sunday, I woke up early and ran 4 miles finishing at Big Ben, meeting up with more lovely runners I’d followed on Instagram to cheer on all those taking place in the Virgin Sport British 10k.

Becca provided me with some bells and we cheered from the first to the last runners. As much as I get anxious that I’m loud and annoying it comes in handy for cheering!

Leah took part and did REALLY WELL. We got a coffee afterwards and sat in the sunshine for a bit.

It safe to say after the past few days I’m a little kissed by the sun!

Wednesday isn’t accurate because I started way too early and was standing still at the start.

This week has been so good!! I haven’t stuck exactly to my training plan but I’ve met so many fantastic people and really enjoyed myself. The running community is amazing and I’m so glad that I’ve gone from dipping my toes in it to running full force into it.

I posted my transformation Tuesday post this week and got such amazing feedback. I was fully expecting lots of negativity but it was all very positive. Thank you to all the people who reached out to compliment me on the post and my achievements. I really appreciated it! Especially this one:

Love hearing that I helped to inspire someone. MADE MY WEEK!

Weekly Update: Finding the Positivity

Week: 12th-18th

My Lazy two weeks are OVER, Officially.

I had a late night on Monday night, as I was at my usual sewing class for the evening and then I was helping my sister with her packing. I woke up Early on Tuesday morning to help my sister to the station at 5:30am and from there I decided to get my day started with a run. I ran 4 miles along the river and was back home by 6:30am. I enjoyed getting up and doing this early, I managed to eat breakfast before leaving the house, and even made a bit more effort with my appearance this day.

The only problem with having a late night/super early morning, was by the time I got to Aerial in the evening on Tuesday I was ready for bed. I didn’t manage much in Aerial. The early morning was a shock to my system, although it came with many positives, it negatively effected my energy by the end of the day. Wednesday I took a much needed rest and an early night.

My alarm went off at 6am on Thursday morning, I tossed and turned for a while but made it up and out the door before 6:30am. I did an awesome run, with a great pace I’m not used to and felt unbelievably energised. Again I had more time than I’m used to for getting ready and made it to work before 9am, when I normally get there a little bit late.

Sunday was an absolute scorcher of morning but I got up and out and did 5 miles around the city! I took in the sun and the sights! I paused around Buckingham palace to take in the beautiful surroundings and take some pictures for tourists!

I absolutely loved this run and finished it off with a Starbucks iced latte!

I feel much more positive for doing my week day runs in the morning, as it’s so warm in London this week, and the thought of having to drag my self round the streets of London for an evening run don’t sound to appealing right now. I’m ecstatic that my pace for Thursday’s run was averagely below a 9 min/mile. More of this for the future I hope. I’m going to try and stick to waking up earlier and doing something each morning, however next week I will have to rearrange my days as I have a few social things to do.

I’ve been so happy that over the last couple of weeks many people have reached out to me about my running. Either asking for advice or asking me to run with them. I’m going to try and set up a little group so I can’t introduce these people to like minded people after the same goal and organise occasional runs for them. I’m currently trying to think of a name for the group but I hope to make a safe space where like minded people can talk about their goals and progress and hopefully meet people to run with on their journey!
This week has been super good and I glad I’ve found so much positivity. Off to enjoy the sunshine. Hope you all had a good week!
